Wimbledon is located in south west London, approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) away from central London.  Our London Postcodes page will show you the area in relation to the rest of London.  Wimbledon is exceptionally well served by road, bus and rail links.  The main road artery is the A219 which runs off the A3.  The A3 links central London with many important towns in Surrey and Hampshire, such as Guildford and Portsmouth.  The main railway station is Wimbledon which is also a terminus for the District Line of the London Underground network.  Frequent trains run to Waterloo Station, (journey time 15 minutes) which is very near to central London and adjacent to the Eurostar terminal for onward bound trains to Paris, Brussels and other European cities.  See also London Pass details for free admission to top attractions and free travel.

The area has one of the best taxi services of any suburban London borough and the taxi rank at Wimbledon Station is well serviced day and night.

Wimbledon is mainly a district of high quality housing with tidy gardens to match.  There are many open spaces and sports grounds.  Wimbledon Common provides great opportunities for relaxed walks.  On the common there is a Windmill which houses the Wimbledon Windmill Museum depicting the history of windmills.

Wimbledon and the surrounding area has numerous restaurants, pubs, bars, two discotheques, a cinema, four theatres and a large shopping complex. See our "Attractions in Wimbledon" page for details.

Wimbledon is home to the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club who organize the world famous tennis tournament held in the last week of June and first week of July.  Visit our "Tennis in Wimbledon" pages for more details.
