About Wandsworth

Wandsworth, in the London Borough of Wandsworth is located on the south bank of the River Thames in South West London, approximately 5 miles (8 kilometres) from the West End in Central London.

The main road in Wandsworth is Wandsworth High Street, part of the busy A205 South Circular road, which forms London’s outer ring road. Wandsworth High Street is also the main commercial area of Wandsworth, and the road is lined with numerous small shops and offices.  Wandsworth Town Hall and South Thames College, one of London’s largest further and adult education colleges is also on the high street.  The A207 Garrattt Lane, which joins Wandsworth High Street, is home to the Southside Centre, a large recently refurbished bustling shopping centre which also contains a Cineworld multicomplex cinema and many restaurants including Nandos, Pizzahut and Macdonalds.  There is also a large Waitrose supermarket and Waterstone’s bookshop in the shopping centre.

Wandsworth – Public Transport

Wandsworth Town Centre’s railway station is Wandsworth Town, which is approximately 5 minutes walk from the Holiday Inn Express Hotel.  Wandsworth Town Station has frequent direct trains to Clapham Junction Station from where there is a direct train service to Gatwick Airport taking just 25 minutes.  There are also frequent direct trains to Waterloo Station with a journey time of just 12 minutes.  From Waterloo it’s only a short walk to the London Eye, whilst London’s West End is less than 15 minutes walk.  Bus number 87 runs from Wandsworth Town Centre directly to Trafalgar Square in central London and the journey usually takes just under an hour during the day.  Night bus number N87 also has a direct service to London’s West End and the journey to Trafalgar Square is around 25 minutes at night.  By far the fastest way into central London during the day is by train from Wandsworth Town Station.

About Tooting

Tooting in South West London is in the southern part of the London Borough of Wandsworth and is approximately 6 miles (10 kilometres) from London’s West End.  Adjacent areas to Tooting are Earlsfield and Wandsworth to the north, Wimbledon and Colliers Wood to the west, Mitcham to the South and Balham to the east.

Tooting is a very lively cosmopolitan area centred around Tooting Broadway and Tooting Bec underground stations and Tooting overground station.  The areas around these stations are also the main commercial centres of Tooting and have many small shops, offices and some of the best Asian restaurants in London serving superb cuisine from Sri Lanka to Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Tooting has a large ethnic population including many Tamils from Sri Lanka and large numbers of Poles, who together with other east Europeans have settled in the UK.  It is now possible to walk into one of the many supermarkets in Tooting and buy a complete weekly food stock of Polish and Asian food products.

Stations in Tooting

Tooting Broadway and Tooting Bec tube stations are both on the Northern Line and there are direct undergound trains to Charring Cross in the West End of London and to Bank in the heart of London’s financial district, the City of London. Tube journeys times to central London are around 25 minutes. There is also a direct tube service to the nearby districts of Colliers Wood, South Wimbledon and Morden.

Tooting Station in the southern part of Tooting has direct overground trains to Wimbledon (journey time six minutes) and Blackfriars in the City of London (journey time 24 minutes).  There are also some direct trains to Luton Airport Parkway Station with journey times of 1 hour and 28 minutes at times when there is a direct service.
