The origins of acupuncture lie in ancient China and can be traced back 5000 years. Acupuncture is used to prevent and treat mental and physical disorders, restoring the body's natural balance.
The use of acupuncture is not new in Britain, having been mentioned in the first issue of the medical journal "The Lancet" in 1823. The long history of acupuncture itself is evidence for its effectiveness.
Although normally thought of as a means of relieving pain, a wide range of illnesses can be treated by acupuncture. It stimulates the body's self healing processes. The focus is on treating the whole body in its entirety, rather than the isolated treatment of specific symptoms.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine stainless steel needles into the body surface at vital points. Using sterilised disposable needles, the treatment is virtually painless.
A session of treatment varies from 20 to 60 minutes. It can produce rapid results but more often it requires a number of treatments over a period of time.
I can help you get well, back doing your usual activities, using acupuncture for a variety of illnesses, including sports injuries. I use conventional acupuncture, using sterlised needles and also offer pain free laser needle acupuncture.
After seeing me for treatment to an injury resulting in Tennis Elbow, Michael Nation wrote:
Before I attended Dr Chao’s acupuncture clinic I was in despair, having had a sporting life playing golf and tennis on a regular basis and to a good standard. I found that due to injury
I was unable to play either, infact I couldn't lift a golf club without great pain.
Six days after the first acupuncture session with Dr. Chao, I returned to my sports therapist, whom I had seen the week before. He stated, and these words of his stuck in my mind. “Its incredible, on the Saturday when I saw you, you were semi disabled and now you’ve got all this movement in both arms, it can’t be just me because I only worked on your left arm.”
My sports therapist was so impressed by my treatment that he wanted Dr Chao’s clinic details for referrals.
Dr. Chao treated me for a few weeks and I am happy to say that both arms are fully recovered and I am playing tennis four times per week for my club once again.
Michael had four treatments in total. The following year he told me that he plays tennis four times a week and has won the first in his club’s competition!
I am a member of the British Acupuncture Council and a Management Committee member of the The Acupuncture Research Resource Centre.
